To get a forensic science job, you would have to go to a forensic science school. If you have a criminal record, you have virtually no chance of getting a forensic science career. You also do not have a chance of getting a job in forensic science if you use drugs, and in some places tobacco is included. There are six general areas of practice which include medical examiner, crime libratory analysis, crime scene examiner, forensic engineer, academic assistance, and technical assistance. There are many different types of science involved in forensic science, and different specialties under those sciences. The jobs above usually deal with multiple branches. Physiological science includes forensic pathology, dentistry, anthropology, entomology, and archaeology. Social science includes forensic psychology and psychiatry. Other specializations include fingerprint analysis, forensic accounting, ballistics, bloodstain pattern analysis, forensic arts, DNA profiling, forensic toxicology, forensic footwear evidence, and questioned document examination. Cyber technology can also be used in forensics through information forensics and computer forensics. Related forensic disciplines could be forensic engineering, forensic materials engineering, forensic polymer engineering, fire investigation, and vehicular accident reconstruction. A forensic medical examiner has the highest bay, but you will have to work with dissecting cadavers. This job requires 7+ years of college and you usually have to have a medical degree. Having a chemistry or biology undergraduate major is good. A forensic odontologis has similar requirements as a medical examiner, but is practiced through dentistry. Usually, regular dentists help as consultants rather than full-time forensic scientists. Crime laboratory analysts have good pay and the work is indoors with stable hours. The downside is that this job is repetitive and routine. You will probably have to have a bachelor`s degree in natural science for any of the laboratory specialties. It is best to have a chemistry degree. If you are interested in DNA testing, biology is the best with genetics and biochemistry. A forensic Engineer deals with traffic accidents, fires, and wrongful injury. It is a lot like crime scene examiners but with fewer bodies. The pay is determined by the degree. You will need an engineering degree with specialties in electrical engineering, mechanical, civil, material, and traffic. A crime scene examiner works with all crimes that occur, no matter when it is. You will be dealing with messy situations and dead bodies and this job is a lot less routine. The pay is great also. To be an examiner, you need a bachelor`s degree in natural science with an emphasis in law enforcement and crime scene processing, or a criminal justice degree with emphasis in natural science.
